Healing is about more than reducing symptoms. Whilst relief from anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties and emotional distress is important, many people also sense a deeper longing for growth, meaning and authenticity.

The More Soul approach integrates contemporary psychotherapy with psychospiritual understanding. It draws upon attachment theory, trauma-informed practice, family systems thinking, psychodynamic exploration of the unconscious, parts work, mindfulness and contemplative traditions.

We begin by looking at your current life situation — in family, relationships, work, health and social connections — to reveal where conflict or a lack of fulfilment shows up. Seeing how these patterns connect to the past often uncovers intergenerational wounds carried from parents and grandparents, helping you recognise that the problem is not in you, but in your family system.

From there, we return to the present — helping you express your needs and experiences with more confidence, authenticity, compassion and healthy boundaries. We then look ahead to your goals, dreams and aspirations for a more fulfilling personal, family and social life.

This approach has four themes or aspects for exploration in the therapy work:

Healing

Understanding emotional wounds, attachment patterns and the impact of past experiences. Developing safety, awareness and self-compassion — drawing on trauma-informed training and recovery approaches, and exploring attachment trauma, family systems patterns and intergenerational wounding.

Integration

Recognising and working with the different parts of ourselves — the wounded “exile” parts we carry from the past, and the protector parts that try to soothe, manage or suppress them. Behind these parts is the wise Self, gradually integrating and healing them, bringing greater harmony to our emotions, relationships and inner life — and in turn, greater peace in our outer relationships, work and social life.

Individuation

As old family patterns, inner wounds and trauma are recognised, we begin to connect more with the Real Self that lies behind the fragmented parts. New energy, purpose and meaning emerge for our relationships, work and social connections — a process of individuation, where we come to know and consciously connect with our Higher Self.

Service

As we explore our inner creativity and resources, we start to offer them to the world — new career paths, new communities, and a surge of energy to help others through work, family and friendships. We become better communicators with healthier boundaries, letting go of people-pleasing, and serving more openly with compassion — while looking after our own needs too.

These stages are not linear and people move between them throughout life. The therapeutic relationship provides a space where healing, growth and self-discovery can unfold at a pace that feels right for each individual.

The intention is not simply to survive life, but to participate in it more fully, consciously and meaningfully.
