Welcome to the More Soul Therapy audio reflections: thoughtful explorations of psychotherapy, family relationships, self-understanding and spiritual development. Each recording offers a space to pause, reflect and discover new perspectives on the patterns that shape our lives.
The recordings are presented as a series so you can follow the ideas as they unfold. You can watch or listen here, and take each reflection at your own pace.
Series 1: Family Systems — The Family We Carry
Our families shape us in ways we may not immediately recognise: through the roles we take on, the beliefs we inherit and the emotional patterns we carry into adulthood. This five-part series explores those influences and how greater awareness can help us relate to ourselves and others with more freedom.
1.1 Understanding Family Systems
An introduction to the ways family relationships and early experiences shape our emotional lives, beliefs and patterns of relating.
1.2 Family Systems: The Family We Carry Within Us
How the emotional atmosphere, relationships and patterns of our family of origin can continue to live within us, influencing how we feel and relate as adults.
1.3 Family Systems: The Roles We Carry Within Us
A reflection on familiar family roles — such as the responsible one, peacekeeper, rescuer or invisible child — and how they can become part of our adult identity.
1.4 Beyond the Roles: Disidentification, Self-Actualisation and the Self
Moving beyond inherited roles by recognising them without being defined by them, creating space for greater awareness, freedom and a more authentic sense of self.
1.5 The Family We Carry Into the World
How the patterns we learned in our families can shape friendships, intimate relationships, work and the wider world — and how awareness can help us respond differently.
Series 2: Beyond the Ego — The Unconscious, the Self and the Soul
Coming next: a new series exploring the unconscious forces that influence our lives, the emotional systems we share as human beings, and the relationship between psychological identity, awareness and the deeper questions of the Self and soul.
Drawing on psychotherapy, family systems, affective neuroscience and contemplative traditions, these reflections will explore how we come to understand ourselves — and what may lie beyond the familiar story of who we are.
More reflections will be added here as the series develops.
